Walking Football

Kicking off a new partnership

We’ve teamed up with Walking Football Scotland to help improve the health and wellbeing of people across Scotland.

Walking football is exactly what it sounds like, it’s a game of football where the players walk instead of run.

It’s designed to help people get fit or stay active no matter their age or fitness.

The beautiful game also offers social benefits as players get the chance to meet new people and play together as part of a team.

Working in partnership with Walking Football Scotland, we want to encourage more people to get involved with the game and keep active as well as providing support to people to live healthier lives.

We kicked off the partnership in June 2023 by sponsoring the Walking Football Scottish Cup – the biggest one-day walking football festival in the world.

Together, we hope to grow Walking Football and help more people keep active, as well as offer essential health checks to improve health outcomes for people and help make sure there’s no life half lived in Scotland.

Teaming up to help ensure No Life Half Lived

Walking Football Clubs across Scotland will be putting their fundraising hero capes on as they take on various activities to raise vital funds throughout October ahead of World Stroke Day, 29th October.

From organising football tournaments and beat the goalie to coffee mornings and head shaves, the teams are getting their creative juices flowing to raise awareness and vital funds to improve the health and wellbeing of people across the country and support people with our conditions to live their lives to the full.

If your Club would like to get involved, your local fundraising advisor is here to help! You can contact our fundraising team on [email protected] to find out more.

Colin’s story

Colin Craig, 73, is a Walking Football player turned coach who knows firsthand how beneficial Walking Football is to your health and wellbeing.

He shares how the partnership has already benefitted his life after he received one of our free health checks and discovered he had high blood pressure. Colin was then able to contact his GP and begin taking medication to help lower his blood pressure.

Colin said:

“I think the key to my engagement with Chest Heart & Stroke Scotland was the fact that they came to our environment, whereby at the end of the session, you went over and had a very quick examination. It was a very relaxed visit and I must commend them for that because there was no pressure or panic.

The team make it so easy for you, you never felt uncomfortable and everything is relayed to you in a logical, friendly and calm manner. I 100% recommend Chest Heart & Stroke Scotland visits to any clubs that have physical activity or Walking Football.

Hear from a Community Connector volunteer

“At the time I was suffering chest pains, which turned out to be anxiety rather than actual heart problems but it got me thinking.

Around the same time I saw that CHSS were looking for volunteers to be Community Connectors, I decided to see what it entailed.

To put it simply I share CHSS posts on my social media sites, helping to spread the word, I can share what I want and as often as I want.

There is no pressure from anyone. I am also invited to expand my knowledge by joining Teams meetings with others to learn more about the work of CHSS, there is NO PRESSURE to join in and no issue if you can’t make it.

So what are you waiting for. Follow the link, sign up and help these guys spread the word.”
