Just ask Gary
āWe wouldnāt have come so far without Fiona, the stroke nurse from Chest Heart & Stroke Scotland, who brought light when all around seemed dark.ā
My name is Gary. Iām a husband, a dad and a grandad and now a stroke survivor but Iām still Gary, and Iām fighting to find the way back to āmeā again.
The very worst moment happened in January 2021 when I was on the phone to my brother. My daughter Lisa and grandson Connor were with me and saw stroke hit in real time, my face āmeltingā as Connor later put it.
Within a heartbeat, your whole life changes.
Thanks to the support Iāve had from Chest Heart & Stroke Scotland, the new Gary is learning to live again and to do new things ā but with limitations the old me never had to worry about.
I consider myself lucky because I had my family alongside me. I couldnāt have done it without the help of my wife, without my grandson and without my children who have been there to support me.
But we wouldnāt have come so far without Fiona, the stroke nurse from Chest Heart & Stroke Scotland, who brought light when all around seemed dark.
Everybody needs to have a Fiona in their lifeā¦to help you get back to living the life that you deserve to live.
By walking with us at the Kiltwalk, youāll be helping fund out vital support services so more survivors like Gary can get the help they need to live their lives to the full.
