"Thrombolysis (‘clot-busting’) treatment for stroke leads to better recovery, but whether it reduces long-term risk of death or health care costs is uncertain.
We could estimate the effect of thrombolysis on death and healthcare costs in the third international stroke trial, which was the largest trial of thrombolysis. Healthcare managers and public health experts would then be able to prioritise acute stroke care. To find this out, we need to find out about the current health of the patients in the trial. "
