“Walking football has greatly improved my health and fitness and also my mental wellbeing.” 18 December 2024 We’re keeping up with our monthly spotlight on Walking Football Scotland Players of the Month! I have met many people from different walks of life I wouldn’t have had the chance to meet otherwise. For December the Walking Football Scotland Women’s Player of the Month is Sally Shering! Sally, 59, plays with Haddington Athletic. Walking Football Scotland Men’s Player of the Month is Colin Lai! Colin, 62, plays with Pollok Utd. Congratulations Sally and Colin! They shared their reflections on what Walking Football means to them. Why did you get involved in walking football? Sally: “I used to play in the Scottish Women’s Football Leauge and wanted to be involved in a team sport again. Walking Football gave me the perfect opportunity to do so.” Colin: “I wanted to exercise while also having fun and walking football seemed the best thing to do.” What positive impact has walking football had on your life? Sally: “Walking football has greatly improved my health and fitness and also my mental wellbeing.” Colin: “In a short time, I have found great enjoyment playing a sport I like. I have also met many people from different walks of life I wouldn’t have had the chance to meet otherwise.” What would you say to encourage others to come along? Sally: “It is easy for anyone to start regardless of age of fitness level. It is great to be a part of a team!” Colin: “If you like football and played it when you were younger, you must come and try it!” Inspired?
