Troon Man Walks the Walk for Chest Heart & Stroke Scotland 11 July 2024 John Muir’s boots were made for walking as he trekked across Ayrshire in the month of June to raise money for Scotland’s largest health charity. More than £2,000 was raised in the fundraiser which saw John, aged 74, walk roughly 80 miles over the course of 9 days. John, who worked in the oil and gas industry before he retired, said: “I’m a member of Masonic Lodge in Dundonald and in the past we’ve raised money for various charities and I was looking for something different this year. “I’ve heard of a few lodge members, family members and people outside of Freemasonry that have had problems with chest, heart and stroke conditions so I thought CHSS made sense and it’s been well received. We’ve had a few donations from various lodges in the area as well. “I decided to walk from the most northernly lodge in Ayrshire at Skelmorlie to the most southernly lodge in Girvan. Some roads weren’t suitable for walking so I did the equivalent distance around Troon and on June 10th I finished by walking from Dailly to Girvan which was about 7 miles. “We’ve managed to raise £2,155 and I’m thrilled with that it’s more than I expected but it’s for a very worthwhile cause. I’d like to thank everyone that donated and supported me throughout the fundraiser.” Chest Heart & Stroke Scotland is committed to reaching 175,000 people per year living with its conditions across Scotland by 2028 through its Community Healthcare Support Services. Aimee Russell, Chest Heart & Stroke Scotland’s Community Events and Corporate Fundraiser, said: “We’re extremely grateful to John for his efforts taking on this challenging fundraiser. “People like John and their generosity help CHSS to support the 1 in 5 people across Scotland who live with one of our conditions to live their lives fully.” Find out more about our fundraising events and challenges here: https://www.chss.org.uk/supportus/fundraise-for-us/events/
