Scottish Government’s Finance Secretary Praises Chest Heart & Stroke Scotland’s “Invaluable Service” at Tayside Health Hub 15 November 2024 Chest Heart & Stroke Scotland’s Tayside Health Hub has been praised by the Scottish Government’s Finance Secretary, Shona Robison, after a recent visit. The Health Hub at the Douglas Sports Centre, which opened in August, provides access to blood pressure and cholesterol checks, exercise classes and information for the management and prevention of chest, heart and stroke conditions and Long Covid. Dundee City East MSP Shona Robison was shown around to see first-hand the benefits it offers to the local community. Joanne Graham, Director of Service Delivery at Chest Heart & Stroke Scotland, said: “It was great to welcome Shona Robison to our Tayside Health Hub and showcase the power of the work carried out by CHSS for the local community. The presence of our health hub in the Tayside area is proving to be hugely valuable to the local community. It’s been fantastic to welcome people through the doors and make a positive impact to ensure they are getting the support they need to live their lives to the full.” As well as health checks & lifestyle support the CHSS Tayside Health Hub also provides access to virtual and in-person support, exercise groups, supported health walks, kindness services, and access to Peer Support Groups in Tayside as part of its Community Healthcare Support Services. Over the past 12 months, CHSS has been working closely with a range of partners across Tayside including Leisure & Culture Dundee, The Dundee Stroke Exercise Club, Dundee City Council, NHS Tayside and the Douglas Family Medical Practice. This collective effort highlights the benefits of a whole system approach to reducing health inequality and providing accessible support to people at risk of developing, or living with, health conditions. Shona Robison, MSP for Dundee City East constituency, said: “It was fantastic to visit Chest Heart and Stroke Scotland’s Tayside Health Hub in Douglas. They offer a range of health and wellbeing checks, including blood pressure, cholesterol, and BMI readings. The friendly team is also on hand with lots of healthy lifestyle advice and support. “This invaluable new service for the local community will help with early detection and prevention. Your health matters so I strongly encourage my constituents to take advantage of the free health checks available at the CHSS Tayside Health Hub at Douglas Sports Centre.” To find out more about how to access services at the CHSS Tayside Health Hub or to volunteer at the hub contact healthdefence@chss.org.uk.
