Chest Heart & Stroke Scotland’s Portobello Health Walk Returns 13 September 2024 The free, inclusive and accessible health walk is part of Chest Heart & Stroke Scotland’s Walking for Health Project and a call has gone out for walkers and volunteers to take part starting on Monday September 16th. Starting outside CHSS’ Portobello shop at 113 High Street at 1pm, the hour-long walk is free to anyone and aims to improve health and wellbeing in local communities. Jacqueline Kent, Walking for Health Coordinator at Chest, Heart & Stroke Scotland said: “At CHSS we offer a health walk which is – amongst other things – free, accessible, gentle and great tackling social isolation. “It’s aimed at people who aren’t currently active and want to be more active, they’re sociable, great to meet and chat to people so great for tackling isolation and led by a trained walk leader. “At CHSS we also offer walk leader training to anyone who is interested in helping out.” Despite CHSS offering a range of services to the 1 in 5 in Scotland with a chest, heart, stroke or Long Covid conditions the walk in Portobello is open to everyone. Jacqueline added: “As part of our prevention strategy we know walking and being physically active is good for preventing our conditions in the first place but equally anyone with our conditions could come along.” The walk starts at 1pm just outside the CHSS shop and the walk takes in the local area including the promenade before ending up back at the shop.
