Acting FAST to keep well this winter 11 January 2023 We can all do small things to keep well this winter but a stroke or heart condition can happen anytime and anywhere and needs a quick response. Don’t hesitate to call 999 if you suspect there’s something wrong so you can seek medical advice quickly. ☎️ Signs of Stroke Think FAST is a simple way to recognise the signs of a stroke: 👤 FACE – Can the person smile, does one side of their face droop? 💪 ARM – Can they lift both arms? Is one weak? 💬 SPEECH – Is their speech slurred or muddled? ⏰ TIME – If ANY ONE of these signs or symptoms are present, call 999. Heart conditions The most common sign of a heart attack is chest pain that doesn’t go away, which may feel like pressure, tightness or squeezing. ❤️ Other symptoms which may indicate you’re having a heart attack include: pain that radiates down the left arm, or both arms, or to the neck, jaw, back or stomach unconsciousness seizures or fitting difficulty breathing (snoring or rasping) rapid heart beat low or undetectable heart beat blue or pale tingling of knees, hands and lips chest pain and breathlessness, nausea, sweating or coughing up blood It is crucial that if you – or someone you know – shows one or more signs of a heart attack, you call 999 right away.
