Getting together is a wonderful way to remember your loved one and raise money in their memory. At difficult times like these, when we can’t physically be together, you can still be together virtually.

A virtual event could be anything from a fundraising walk at home to an online gathering, sharing special memories, stories and quirks that made them, them.

We are more than happy to talk through ideas with you and give you advice every step of the way.

Derek’s Story

Derek has raised over £24,000 in memory of his precious wife Karen who he lost to heart and lung problems in 2016.

“Karen made my life better and I want to do that for others. There will be that empty chair where Karen should be, but helping others makes me carry on. It’s helped us all come to terms with losing the person who meant everything.”

Derek lost his wife Karen to a long fight against heart and lung problems. Derek wanted to do something really special in her memory.

“Karen will always be the love of my life. As soon as we met, that was it. I’d found the person I was meant to be with. We had the best life together.

We were totally in love and lived every day to the full. If we wanted to and we could afford it we did it – always at that party, always taking our nieces and nephews to cool places, always laughing. Our lives changed forever when Karen became unwell.

I was at work when I got the call to say Karen was in intensive care. She had a heart attack because of a massive build-up of fluid on her lungs. The doctor was in tears when he told us Karen didn’t have long left.

My precious wife closed her eyes for the last time on the 21st of November 2016, while she lay holding my hand, surrounded by family and friends.

Since that day, life can be a struggle. But doing something positive for Chest Heart & Stroke Scotland has been a huge source of strength for us.”
